Dedicated Weezy fans know that some of his best raps lie in leaks and unfinished cuts that have made their way to the Internet but never onto any official projects. One such track is "Cry Out (Amen)," which surfaced circa 2006 in unmastered quality. Today, the song's producer, StreetRunner, who has been making beats for Wayne for nearly a decade, has come through with a huge surprise and released the CDQ version of "Cry Out (Amen)."
"I hope you ain't too tired to cry, and I hope you know you ain't never too live to die," says Weezy to begin the track. What proceeds are some of the most heartfelt and painful raps you'll hear coming from mid-'00s Wayne -- some of the best Weezy there is. The song covers police brutality, misconceptions about his hometown hood, and attempting to heal in the wake of Katrina. Through it all, Wayne delivers a message of inspiration.
The StreetRunner production is stirring as well, and you can stream the CDQ instrumental right here.
Quotable Lyrics
Last time we seen him was when Katrina hated
Found his body like a month later
Rest in peace boy, he was an East boy
And so was Wessy West
He was a good n*gga, so I know he blessed
And his daughter is a princess
This shit is harder than a bench press
But I'ma keep goin'
And I swear I got a lump in my throat
But I'ma keep on pumpin' the flow
